Here Janina shows us the shoulderstand as a nude yoga pose.

The Sanskrit for shoulder stand is salamba sarvangasana. Vivasa is one of many Sanskrit words for “naked,” so it seems fitting to call this naked yoga shoulderstand the vivasa salamba sarvangasana.

Now watch some Sanskrit scholar come correct me. (Comments welcome.)

This inversion is not for beginners, so please don’t try this at home. Do it only under instruction from a qualified yoga teacher. And never, and I mean never, turn your neck while you’re in the pose, even if there’s a beautiful young lady like Janina practicing nude yoga nearby.

The inverted pose depends on strong core muscles to hold you up. The idea is to continue stretching up through the feet and lifting through the core muscles of the abdomen and back so that your feet, legs and torso form a straight line down to the shoulders. The shoulders bear the weight, not the neck and head.

Again, please don’t attempt this asana without the aid of a qualified yoga teacher.
