Margo here demonstrates salamba sarvangasana, or supported shoulderstand.

This is a very bad example of sarvangasana, she is showing you what exactly you should never — and I repeat never do in shoulderstand, whether you’re doing yoga naked or with clothes on.

What’s the big deal, you may ask? It is extremely important not to turn the head in shoulderstand, it’s an easy way to slip a disk and do irreparable damage to the cervical spine.

Instead, look straight up at the toes. Relax the shoulders, neck and face as much as possible, but don’t turn the head!

Otherwise, Margo is demonstrating a beautiful pose, one long line from the shoulders up through the feet. She’s pointing the toes, usually it’s taught the other way around, reaching up through the heels with the toes pulled back, but there’s no “right” way.

Not to mention, a hot, young, blonde doing yoga nude? Exquisite.

Victoria, a beautiful blonde doing naked yoga, demonstrates for us the upward bow pose — urdhva dhanurasana — also called wheel pose.

According to Yoga Journal, this pose helps increase energy and counteract depression.

Can’t quite figure this one out — it could be two sets of nude yoga partners (looks like fun, doesn’t it?), or some sort of female yab-yum tantric sex position.

Or it could be that it’s just some pretty girls modeling for the camera.

I vote for the latter, however, the leftmost blonde (second in) is showing us a decent camel pose, or ustrasana.

Usually in partner yoga, one partner will aid in camel pose by getting behind and pulling gently on the arms while the partner in the pose presses the hips forward. Another variation is for the aiding partner to press gently in the center of the back with one or both feet. But the partner’s assist in this photo certainly works for me and she can come assist in my yoga class anytime.

Here’s a nude yoga picture of Chloe doing a half shoulderstand.

Interestingly, the half shoulderstand is in the Hathayoga Pradipika, the authoritative text on Hatha yoga, but the full shoulderstand is not.

Here’s an example of the full shoulderstand.

As you can see, the basic difference is that there is more of a bend in the hips in the half shoulderstand, putting more weight into the hands, elbows, and arms rather than onto the shoulders and possibly the neck.

That makes the half shoulderstand considerably safer than the full shoulderstand, which may be why the full shoulderstand isn’t mentioned in the main Hatha yoga text. Another possibility is that there is a considerable difference in blood pressure in the head in the two poses.

Fiona demonstrates a version of vrksasana, or tree pose.

You’ll notice that her form is a bit different from Zita’s tree pose. These are just two versions of the same naked yoga asana. The raised foot doesn’t have to be pressed into the standing leg.

In fact, there’s a variation called adho mukha vrksasana, or downward facing tree, in which you fold at the hips, locking the raised leg in the fold while the hands reach for the ground in front of the standing foot.

Here’s Fiona showing off a naked yoga fish pose, or matseyasana. This pose is harder than it looks.

I wish you could see her feet, it would make this pose easier to explain.

You enter matseyasana, a nice deep backbend, after doing several spinal warm-ups like cat and cow then bridge pose.

Here’s how you do it. Lying on your back, lift your hips up enough to slide your hands under your tailbone. Bring the thumbs together and also join the index fingers so the thumbs and index fingers form a diamond shape, palms down, underneath the tailbone. Press through the heels of the feet, flexing the toes back.

As you inhale, press down into the floor with the elbows while pulling your tailbone back and pushing your pubic bone forward. This will cause your back to arch. Continue the arch by lifting through the heart and sternum. Your head should come off the ground. Release the neck.

Slowly lower down onto the top (or back) of your head. Keep lifting through the sternum, pressing through the heels, and support yourself in the elbows. If you feel any neck compression at all, press into the elbows enough to release your head from the floor before coming down completely.

Some people feel comfortable removing their hands from underneath them, bringing them to heart center in prayer position, like our nude model Fiona is demonstrating. A variation of this is to rotate the heels of the hands 45 degrees towards the face, so the fingers are pointing into the body and the heels of the hands are up towards the ceiling.

To come out of the pose, press into the elbows and release the head and neck before allowing your back to release to the floor.

This is not an easy pose. Work up to it.

On her web site you’ll see that Fiona has a nude yoga video clip as well as some other clips that show her doing yoga, gymnastics, karate and so on while in the buff.

Her hands are in jnana mudra, a meditative position. I think it’s called something else besides jnana mudra, though, when the hands are held on either side of the face. I looked and looked and couldn’t find the name of this hand gesture, but I know I just read about it somewhere.

This mudra is supposed to help lift energy levels.

This is such a deep scorpion pose, I’m not even sure it’s still a scorpion pose — I’ll have to look it up.

Two things are certain — this young lady can really bend. And the other thing? Beat A. von Weissenfluh is one skilled art photographer.

Even more impressive is that he’s not a full-time photographer. Though his work rivals the top names in the nude photo industry, he’s an economist!

Just goes to show that you don’t have to do nude photography for a living in order to enjoy it.
